AMS Launches P3™ Flexible UV at GRAPH EXPO 2007

Air Motion Systems celebrated its 10 year anniversary and the launch of its 3rd Generation UV System - the P3™ - at Graph Expo 2007, for which it received a coveted award in the MUST SEE 'EMS recognition program.

September, 2007 - GRAPH EXPO, McCormick Place, Chicago — AMS once again delivered the excitement of UV Printing to the center stage of Graph Expo in the form of the "UV Lounge" (www.uvlounge.com), its one-of-a-kind gathering place for connecting and sharing in the growth of UV Printing in the Graphic Arts Industry.

In conjunction with the UV Lounge and its 10 year anniversary, AMS announced the general availability of its 3rd generation UV system, the P3(tm) Flexible UV System.  The P3 marks a significant milestone in the ongoing transformation to UV printing in the Graphic Arts industry, and received a coveted "WORTH-A-LOOK" award out of over 6,600 products at this year's Graph Expo - and the only one in its category of UV Coating/Curing - in the independent MUST SEE 'EMS recognition program sponsored by the North American Graphic Arts Show Company (GASC).

The P3(tm) Flexible UV System introduces a host of new patent-pending features designed to make UV printing easier than ever. Engineering achievements such as "multi-axial float" designed to maximize thermal durability of moving components, "independently clutched shutters" that guarantee self-alignment of motorized reflectors in the face of ongoing physical stress and contaminants in the printing process, "enhanced plug-and-play" connectivity and 100% "integrated liquid cooling" combine with the existing flexibility, efficiency and ease-of-use features pioneered by Air Motion Systems over six years ago to create the world's most advanced in-line UV system.

"The P3 system is the culmination of over ten years of witnessing first hand how printers use and abuse their UV systems under the most demanding conditions" remarked Hans Ulland, AMS Co-founder and VP of Sales. "UV systems have developed a not-so-undeserved reputation of decreasing press life and creating unecessary downtime - all factors that limit its true potential. After 'freeing' the UV system from the press through simple, modular interchangeability, we decided to depart from all currently-established expectations on reliability and create a UV system that will literally outlive the press."

"While most UV systems tend to focus on the electrical aspects of the process in terms of Watts/inch, etc., we spend an equal amount of time focusing on mechanics and automation" says Dan Cunningham, Vice President of Product Development at AMS. "UV systems are notorious for their lack of mechanical durability, which can often discourage new printers from embracing the process. The P3 serves as an engineering answer to this problem."

"We introduced radical change to the UV status quo six years ago with the launch of our 1st generation Peak UV system" adds Pierre Gelinas, AMS Co-founder and Lead Field Engineer. "While our competitors have attempted to catch up with simple ideas like tool-less lamp change and end-of-press to interdeck interchangeability, we are continuing to anticipate needs around the corner and provide more innovation. 'Bulletproof UV' for the broad market is the next wave and the P3 is our answer".

"We're at the intersection of several major trends in the growth of UV printing" notes Steve Metcalf, AMS President and CEO. "Presses are faster, more automated and more user intuitive than ever, with larger-format printing, perfecting and in-line foiling growing in popularity. At the same time, the UV process is going mainstream because of its tremendous ability to enable these presses and further transform a printer's business. But despite the wealth of benefits UV brings, there are many background variables that can put a strain on limited resources. At AMS, we see the importance of leading the adoption of UV by eliminating the hidden complexities of the process. Our first generations did this by addressing the flexibility and ease-of-use factors. The P3 - our 3rd generation system - was designed to overcome a whole new level of variables that can interfere in seeing amazing results from UV".

As part of its UV Lounge and 10-year anniversary celebration, AMS announced over 550 UV and IR units installed across North America and new customers including Ivy Hill Packaging, Total Graphics, WG Anderson, Big3D.com, Sumi Printing, Blanchette Press, Unicorn Graphics, KDM Solutions, Somerset, Midland Litho, Keystone Printed Specialties, Superprint Lithographers, Dumont Printing, Piedmont Laminating and Coating and Haig's Quality Printing.

Air Motion Systems plans to continue the unique tradition established with the UV Lounge and is already planning on a larger exhibit space at the Graph Expo 2008 show in Chicago.
