Designed for Heat-Sensitive Printing

The Cool Impressions™ System is an impression cylinder cooling system for demanding UV applications that involve heat-sensitive substrates, such as plastic and static-cling stock. This state-of-the-art, patented system allows printers to print UV continuously at speed and maintain registration on plastics.

Function

The Cool Impressions™ System works by directing chilled high-velocity air at impression cylinders from underneath, in an area where sheets don’t travel. Cooling is controlled in each print unit independently, as well as in the delivery, to achieve the desired temperature for any job. Real-time feedback on an easy-to-use color touchscreen allows for monitoring of actual cylinder temperatures from the console to assure better registration during long runs.

Design

Because of its location in the press, there is no interference with the OEM sheet guiding and anti-marking provisions. Systems that use ducted air from a cold-air generator outside the press create unwanted air currents. But by generating cold air directly in the press, the Cool Impressions™ System eliminates the need for excessive external ducting and remote air cooling.

Efficiency

The Cool Impressions™ System works in harmony with OEM press sheet guiding and air handling. Controlling the temperature of the impression cylinder eliminates the primary channel for conductive heat transfer into the substrate.

The captive air within the press is advantageously recirculated, so the System maintains cold air temperatures with minimal energy expenditure. Ducted systems are far less efficient, requiring much more energy to reduce the temperature of vast amounts of air outside the press.

Control

The Cool Impressions™ System uses a centralized PC-based control program. Operators can easily adjust and monitor cylinder temperatures from an intuitive control screen, based upon pre-configured auto-cool set points. A manual override feature allows for maximum control of each unit.
