Mölndal, Sweden – On the beautiful western shore of Sweden, lost in the picturesque town of the “valley of mills” Mölndal, Billes Printing is moving full-speed-ahead with the introduction of LED UV printing.

Billes Printing has been part of the community for many years. However, not interested in resting on their laurels, they recently purchased a revolutionary technology that will help set them apart from their competition and make the air a little sweeter smelling. Billes Printing installed an Air Motion Systems, Inc. (AMS) LED UV system on a Manroland 705 LV press, making them the first printer in Sweden equipped with LED UV curing technology.

AMS LED UV technology combined with LED inks creates rich detail and vibrant colors that come off the press instantly dry. “We can now tap into virtually any material and get a very good result because the colors do not seep into the paper in the same manner they used to,” said CEO Niklas Bille. Plus, since LED UV doesn’t create any heat, the threat of the substrate curing is eliminated.

Conventional printing methods uses spray powder to avoid offsetting ink from one sheet to another during the drying process. Since sheet come out of the press fully dry, spray powder is no longer needed. Bille added, “We get great gains in the work because we do not have a lot of dust from drying powder.”

Another feature of LED is it eliminates mercury and ozone toxins from the press room and consumes 70 percent less energy compared to other drying methods. There are no toxins exhausted into either the plant of the surrounding community. As the world feverishly searches for technological means to help industry adopt better and more ways of becoming “green”, LED is obviously the future of printing.

Billes Printing is the first printer in Sweden to install LED UV, but they certainly won’t not be the last. “This technology is too good to be a trend,” assures Bille. AMS LED UV can be installed on both new and existing presses. Bille also stated he plans to retrofit his other presses with the AMS LED UV technology.

Air Motion Systems, Inc. (AMS) is located in River Falls, Wisconsin, USA, and has more meters of LED UV installed – and more years of experience than all others LED suppliers combined. AMS remains the worldwide leader in UV LED technology due to their commitment to quality, reputation for reliability, and exceptional experience. LED UV increases press production and can reduce energy consumption by up to 80%.
